The 7 Energy Points or Chakras
A human body is full of mysteries. For ages, philosophers and scientists have made efforts to understand a human body existing at different levels. There is a conscious or physical form of body that is visible to the eyes and then, there is subtle or non-physical form of body that has to be experienced. It is believed that the subtle form of body unravels the mysteries of body and mind. Our body carries overwhelming strength within it, helping us overcome the mental blocks one keeps facing throughout life. These energies and strengths are dispersed throughout the body at seven different places known as “Chakras” or Energy Centres.
The word “Chakra”, meaning “Wheel” in English, is originated from Sanskrit. The seven energy centres were named “Chakras” as the energy remains in a constant spin at these spots. These energy centres are located along the spine, starting from the first “Chakra” located at the groin to moving upwards to the crown or the top of the head. Each “Chakra” is a symbol of more refinement of energy than the previous one as we move up starting from the first energy centre at the groin which represents materialistic pleasures of the world. As we move up, the energy gets refined further and consciousness awakened till we reach up to the peak or the crown that is a representation of the ultimate spiritual awakening.
Each energy centre is associated with a certain organ of the body. The organ derives its energy from the energy centre. The first three Chakras are located below the navel. The first one located between the anus and the genital organ, the second right above the genital and the third one right below the navel. The fourth is located above the navel, the fifth at the throat. The sixth is found between the two eyebrows and the last one is at the top of the head.
- Muladhara or root chakra
- Svadhishthana or sacral chakra
- Manipura or solar plexus/navel chakra
- Anahata or heart chakra
- Vishuddha or Vishuddhi or throat chakra
- Ajna or third-eye chakra
- Sahasrara or crown chakra
The free flow of energy throughout these energy centres ensures sound health and tranquil mental state. Through yoga and meditation, the energy at the first “Chakra” can be harmonized and channelized upwards, causing one to be more at peace with the surroundings.
