Karan Sekhri – As per Vaastu ‘Ishaan kon’ or Northeast direction is considered most auspicious for making the worship place. The Lord of this area is Shiva himself but if in case it is not possible the second best place would be eastern part of your house or in east direction. While doing the worship you should face east direction or north direction. The height of the idols shouldn’t exceed 9-10 inches because beyond that it is not advisable to keep them at home as the God / Goddess idols with more heights should be kept in temples only. Initially you should start with minimum five idols ‘Panchdev’ i.e. Lord Surya, Lord Ganapati, Any Goddess (preferably Durga), Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu. You can add other God or Goddess as per your requirement. If in case there isn’t proper defined place for the worship then it can be made inside your kitchen as it is considered the most auspicious place in the house. If you have a small kitchen and it is not possible to make worship place there then the second best option would be bedroom but there you have to cover the worship area or use wooden box which can be closed after doing the worship on a daily basis.
