“Akshaya Tritiya” is the birthday of Lord Parshurama who is one of the incarnations of Lord Vishnu. Hindus believe that Lord Ganesha started penning Mahabharata with the help of Bhagwan Ved Vyas on this auspicious day. The Jain community holds this day to be auspicious too as they believe that “Tirthankara Rishabh” ended his fast on this day. There is a lot of reverence associated with “Akshaya Tritiya Puja at Home”. It is quite evident with the fact as Hindus and Jains tend to execute important business decisions on this day, believing that they will be more likely to be fruitful. Similarly, they prefer to start long journeys on the auspicious day as it may bring about the desired results.

The official commencement of the “Treta Yug” or period is also believed to have started on this day. The mighty river “Ganga” also made her way to the earth from heaven on this auspicious day. Sage Parshurama – sixth incarnation of Lord Vishu – was also born on this day. Kuber – the divine custodian of wealth and riches – got his wealth and his appointment as the custodian on Akshaya Tritiya. Sudama – Lord Krishna’s best friend – visited the latter on this day, seeking some financial help. So many examples corroborating the significance of “Akshaya Tritiya” are there in Hindu mythology that, even today, in Odisha, farmers prefer to start ploughing on this day and, in Bengal, businessmen officially start logging their accounts in the new audit book on “Akshaya Tritiya”.
