Acharya Karan V – Lord Vishnu or Bhagwan Vishnu, as He is popularly known amongst his followers, is a God who has appeared since time immemorial in the Hindu legends and mythology. Considered to be the Supreme Form of God responsible for preserving and protecting the universe, He is one of the Hindi Divine Trinity.

For ages, Lord Vishnu and His ten most popular avatars or incarnations have been revered by Hindus, with Lord Krishna and Rama to be the most popular one. He is believed to be born in human form to annihilate the evil forces whenever the forces try to have their way.

Lord Vishnu has mainfested Himself in various other incarnations as well, with one of the popular one being “Adimurti”. Etymologically, the word “Adimurti” is derived from “Adi” meaning the eternal, first or original and “Murti” meaning a form. Hence, Adimurti refers to the Eternal or the First Form that took shape in the universe.

The Lord “Adimurti” sits on “Adisesa” that is the manifestation of his throne of Serpents known as Sheshnag. The form of Adimurti has been depicted as having coral red skin complexion with four hands, sitting on the serpent with one leg folded and one hanging. Adimurti is depicted with Lord Shiva, Lord Brahma and sage Bhrigu and Markandey, all sitting in a venerating position.

As “Adimurti” is one of the manifestations of Lord Vishnu – the Preserver and Protector of the universe – appeasing Him to get benefitted by his grace is of utmost significance. One of the primary rituals performed during Adimurti Puja is to chant the mantras given below:

“…SHAANTAA KAARAM, BHUJAGA SHAYANAM, PADMANAABHAM SURESHAM
VISHWAA DHAARAM, GAGANA SADRASHAM, MEGHAVARNAM SHUBHAANGAM
LAKSHMI KAANTAM KAMALA NAYANAM YOGIBHI DHYAANA AGAMYAM
VANDE VISHNUM BHAVA BHAYA HARAM SARVA LOKAIKA NAATHAM…”

The aforementioned mantras are the excerpts from the complete recitation. In the mantras, the performer bows himself before the Master of the Universe who sits on the throne of serpents and has a lotus of creative power in his navel. There are other popular small mantras of Lord Vishnu which can be used for performing puja or ritual for Adimurti as well like –

“OM NAMO NARAYANAY”

“OM VISHNAVE NAMAH”

“OM NAMO BHAGVATAY VASUDEVAYA”

The chanting is to be performed at a “Hawan” or “Hom” by a priest at a designated period of auspicious nakshatras. The “Hawan” performed with extreme faith and conviction can help ward off the negative forces from the place. Lord Adimurti manifests Himself in the form of goodwill and prosperity if the puja is conducted following the rituals.
