Insanity means when no other thing in life becomes important than your specific task or goal. The goal could be anything from becoming a millionaire to becoming famous or getting spiritual success, this formula of success is applicable everywhere even in your spiritual journey. If you want to achieve your spiritual goal then you have to leave all your inhibitions and intelligence completely and become insane just for one goal and it is definite you will achieve that.
