Acharya Karan V – The word “Yantra” is a Sanskrit word for an instrument or a machine. Mantras are symbolically represented as Yantras. In Hinduism, Gods and Goddesses are venerated in difference forms. The various forms of these Gods are associated with a Yantra. The common belief is that if one is paying homage and performing “puja” for a particular God, worshipping the associated Yantra can enhance the fruitfulness and effectiveness of the puja. The worshippers of the goddess Devi offer their prayers using the Shree Yantra which is a symbol of the power hidden in both the genders. The symbol has 9 triangles, with 4 representing male or Shiva and 5 female or Shakti. In the centre of the symbol is a point (bindu) representing the expansion centre of the cosmos and two circles of lotus petals encircle the triangles, symbolizing the act of creation and the reproductive force respectively. The outer square with four openings is a representation of four doors to the universe. The Shree Yantra dispels negative energy, introducing prosperity, goodwill and growth.
